ICSI — Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

ICSI is a more sophisticated form of IVF in which a scientist injects a single sperm directly into the egg to assist fertilisation. It is an effective treatment where sperm quality is poor. Everything before and after that step is the same as a standard IVF cycle.

Services

When to consider ICSI

  • Low sperm count, poor motility or abnormal sperm shape

  • Sperm retrieved surgically from the testes or epididymis

  • Previous IVF cycles where few or no eggs fertilised

  • Frozen sperm where the available sample is limited

  • Cycles where embryos will undergo genetic testing

  • Some cases of unexplained infertility
