Egg and Sperm Freezing

Freezing eggs or sperm stores them at a point in time, so they can be used later. Egg freezing is available for both medical and social reasons.

What's involved

Egg freezing — what's involved:

  • Blood tests and an ultrasound to assess ovarian reserve

  • Around two weeks of hormone injections to stimulate the ovaries, with monitoring appointments

  • Egg collection under light sedation, as a day procedure

  • Mature eggs frozen by vitrification and placed in storage

Sperm freezing — what's involved:

​

  • A semen analysis

  • One or more samples produced on site, or collected surgically where needed

  • Samples divided, frozen and stored
